Code of Conduct

Code of Conduct

Beyond the Code is an event series aimed at highlighting the achievements and experiences of underrepresented groups in technology. Through a technical framework, we’ll explore the challenges in tech and discuss how we can contribute to the positive growth of these groups. We encourage anyone who is interested in actively participating to attend. The goal of the event series is to provide a safe, positive, and inclusive environment for participants and speakers to have meaningful conversations and learn from each other. In order to create this kind of safe, positive, and inclusive environment, we ask that all attendees follow the conduct guidelines outlined below

Why Code of Conduct

The code of conduct allows us to reflect on what kind of experience we want this to be and what kind of community and values we want to foster. The code serves as a set of guidelines for our events and the behaviors we want to encourage. We hope that everyone works together to abide by these expectations so that we have constructive and rewarding sessions for all participants.

The goal of Beyond the Code is to create a rewarding experience for everyone involved — regardless of religion, ethnicity, physical appearance, body size, or any other characteristics or beliefs. All participants are expected to conduct themselves in a way that that is respectful and inclusive of all individuals.

The code of conduct applies to all communication associated with these events. This includes social media. Please post responsibly and respectfully.

In a nutshell: We ask that all Beyond the Code participants be respectful, inclusive, and aware of your words and actions/reactions. Be mindful of how your words or actions might affect others. Let’s all work together to create an environment that makes space for each other’s ideas and perspectives.

We encourage all participants to have open and honest discussions and to be responsible for their words and actions. If you observe someone behaving disrespectfully or insensitively towards someone else, (and if you feel comfortable engaging them,) we encourage you to respectfully ask them to stop. If the person does not respond to your request, or you would prefer not to approach them, please contact a member of the organization team immediately. We’re here to listen and to help resolve any issues that may arise.

If you catch yourself being disrespectful or insensitive, or if you are approached by someone about your words or behavior, we encourage you to pause, listen openly to the concern, own what you’ve said or done, apologize, and move forward in a constructive and respectful way. Let’s work together as a community to ensure everyone feels safe and respected.

Beyond the Code strives to be accessible to all participants regardless of religion, ethnicity, physical appearance, body size, or any other characteristics or beliefs. If at any point during the conference you feel your needs are not being met, please get in touch with a volunteer.

  • Discriminatory images
  • Intimidation, stalking, or harassment of any kind
